REBOUND’S PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM info sheet
Overview: As a Rebound pre-Physical Therapy Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of physical therapy. You will work closely with the Rebound team while enhancing your understanding of patient care, rehabilitation techniques, and the overall functioning of a physical therapy clinic. Read on for more details on how you can join us in our pursuit of making a difference in the lives of our patients.
Program Highlights and Responsibilities:
- Observation and Assistance: Shadow and assist physical therapists throughout the clinical day, including patient evaluations and follow-up treatment sessions. Gain insight into assessing patient needs and formulating effective treatment plans. Gain exposure to and learn the importance of accurate, thorough, and compliant documentation in physical therapy.
- Patient Interaction: Interact with patients under the supervision of Rebound physical therapists, providing support, and ensuring a positive experience for all patients of Rebound.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Familiarize yourself with various treatment techniques and methodologies, exercises, therapeutic modalities, and other equipment commonly used in physical therapy.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with all members of the Rebound team and see firsthand how collaboration is a key to success for our patients.
- Meaningful Projects: Complete at least one impactful project assigned to you by a Rebound physical therapist that aligns with your academic background and career interests. These projects will include a presentation to Rebound clinical staff and are designed to foster skill development that is important for your success at the graduate school level and later as a healthcare professional.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing learning opportunities, including in-house training You will have a career conversation with a Rebound physical therapist to enhance understanding of the field, options, and opportunities available.
- Community Engagement: Participate in our community outreach activities, including team injury prevention screenings and the post-race Rebound Recovery Room at local events.
- Feedback and Evaluation: Participate in regular feedback sessions to help highlight progress, identify areas for improvement, and foster a culture of continuous learning and
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in a related field (e.g. Health and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Biology)
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in physical therapy or occupational therapy – consideration is also given to other pre-healthcare professions (PA, MD, DO, nursing)
- High character (honest, dependable, reliable)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ready and willing to be an active participant as an intern
- Ability to work on a high-performing team in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Program Duration, Schedule, and Options: Internships are available 4 times per year, aligning with the academic calendar. Internship timing is outlined below. You will be expected to commit to a consistent schedule of hours each week for the duration of your internship and scheduling will accommodate academic commitments. Rebound offers 3 levels of student participation/commitment and these internship levels are explained in more detail below.
Internship Timing:
- Spring semester (mid-January through mid-May)
- Summer (mid-May through mid-August)
- Fall semester (mid-August through mid-December)
- Winter break (mid-December through mid-January)
Internship levels available:
- Practicum: Minimum 6 hours per week up to 15 hours per week
- Full Internship: 16 hours per week up to 40 hours per week
- Shadowing: 1 – 3 blocks of shadow only time, with each block being 2-3 hours in length; shadowing focuses only on Observation and Assistance as outlined in Program Highlights and Responsibilities on the previous page

- A completed Rebound student internship application

Applications are considered on a rolling basis and are due no later than one month before desired semester start date (see Internship Timing above.) Applications not containing all 4 items will not be considered. All candidates will be notified of their application status.
Interviews: Top candidates will be invited to interview, and internships will be awarded following these interviews.
